Limitless Australia
This year will be Limitless Australia's fifth iteration, having grown from 30 students in its inaugural year, to most recently, 156 students. Limitless Australia is hosted and facilitated by Higher Ground at the Kenilworth Homestead, a privately run outdoor education centre on the bank of the Mary River and just 2km from the township of Kenilworth, Queensland. It is located 145km north of Brisbane and 40km west of Noosa.
Limitless Australia offers students Life Leadership - shifting leadership away from titles, positions and the management of others, and towards the way a young person learns to lead a life: becoming present, making choices, taking responsibility, contributing to others and understanding who they are becoming. The central question is therefore not “What will I do with my life?”. It is “Who will I become?” The first question points towards future plans and achievement. The second is about character, choice and identity as they are formed through experience.
Programme Overview
Students joining Limitless Australia will begin their journey in HKIA, flying 8.5 hours down south to Brisbane International Airport, followed by a 1.5 hour bus journey to Kenilworth Homestead.
Activities are not the highlight or goal of Limitless Australia, but instead are a means to an end. Students participate in various outdoor activities that help foster and facilitate the development of their interpersonal skills as they learn to become:
- Active and engaged learners
- Collaborative contributors
- Responsible global citzens
- Critical and creative thinkers
- Effective communicators
- Healthy and resilient individuals
A new addition to the programme following the feedback we received, was Social Saturdays - an opportunity for students to mix and mingle with their peers from different Journey Groups, and participate in a few different activities such as visiting Australia Zoo and learning how to surf in Noosa.
As part of the programme structure, students are involved in a number of activities such as the following:
- 3-day, 5-day, and a 10-day expedition
- Enquiry-based learning
- Community Living
- DEAR (drop everything and reflect) time
- Abseiling
- Canoeing
- Mountain biking
- High ropes obstacle course
Typical Day at the Homestead
Though every day may look a little different, this is what a typical day at the Homestead may look like.

Wake up call
Students use the start of the day as a personal journaling time to share hopes, intentions, needs and emotions (SHINE) of the day

Breakfast Duty
Journey Groups rotate through Community Living activities. One of them include preparing the dining hall, serving breakfast, and clean-up after breakfast

Community Living activities include feeding the animals, sweeping and maintaining the homestead grounds, cabin cleaning, and toilet cleaning.
